On the Rock Restaurant, Phuket - Thailand

On the Rock Restaurant, Phuket – Thailand

As a food critic I always seek many things that will make my food experience special, am a huge lover of sea food and i eat pretty much everything that comes out from the sea and that is the reason why I have visited this restaurant more than 10 times in Phuket, Thailand.

Hidden in the tropical forest at Karon area right on the heavenly beach with the tranquil waters on the top of a vertical cliff of rocks, this restaurant is just catching your breath as it is so beautifully located that makes you wonder if it was built by humans or by something superior. After walking through the wooden bridge through the forest and then turning left the first thing you will see is a big wooden boat full with fresh sea food , my favorite rock lobsters , craps, red mullets , mouthwatering fresh oysters , sea bass and of course the Jumbo King Prawns.

After passing the boat a friendly Thai smile will escort you to the table, my favorite ones are the ones just right on the edge of the cliff overlooking the wonderful Andaman Sea, carefully decorated with wild orchids it really brings up the mood for dinner, romance and mind relaxation hearing the waves hitting the rocks just 10 meters below of where you are sitting.

The menu is tropical as expected and the variety of food is quite generous, but definitely you will not go to Phuket and order a burger! The choice is a one way with many surprises coming from the sea , seafood basket is a must to order as it comes with a rock lobster – mussels – red mullet – a monster crab, red snapper, the traditional Jumbo King Prawns are also included, just the perfect dinner for two that it should be escorted with the special sea food fried rice served in a pineapple and of course I would highly recommend a Moonsoon Thai white wine that it will just close this perfect feast.

The Rock lobster it is delicious and very carefully cooked on the grill with garlic butter halved exposing its white flesh making your mouth water, the Crap also prepared on the grill giving you only one choice on how to eat it and that is with your hands remembering me of what we say in my country that in order to enjoy food and women you need to use your hands!

Mussels are steamed bringing the freshness of the sea into your mouth as for the Red Mullet and Red Snapper , honestly they are delicious also prepared on the grill ,but I prefer the seashells much more and last the Jumbo King Prawns is really the flag ship of the menu , halved and cooked on the grill similar with the rock Lobster and it really tastes as a prawn and am saying this because specially in the Mediterranean sea from where am coming from the Jumbo Prawns just taste like vegetable as either are grown in a Sea farm either they bring them from Asia in ice for ages , but here it is just wild , naturally grown Prawn that was caught either the morning or the day before.

Bottom line this restaurant it is located on one of the best paradise spots in the world, it is respectfully clean, the service is friendly, smiling and full of compliments trying to make you feel comfortable. The price it is in a pretty good level considering that you are eating fresh lobster and Jumbo King Prawns an indication for a couple it will be around 30-40 Euro , yes expensive for Thailand ,but much cheaper from where you are coming from.

A tip that you should follow is that next to the boat with the Sea food on your left there are couple of tables next to some bushes , just DO NOT sit there as the mosquitos specially at night will suck up all your blood, it is tropical an mosquitos have a quite good size.

As for what kind of dessert you should order ….. well …. I will leave that to you to find out!
